Cora is {NINE}

It’s been far too long since I’ve blogged and I’m going to start working that into my routine (who am I kidding I’m routine adverse :)

Cora-

This sweet little girl has thrown curve balls since conception…First it was my low lying placenta putting me at risk of a miscarriage, then her weekly “smaller than average checks” which led us to a “small bones” report post ultrasound. That report sent us at 34 weeks to Iowa City to meet with a geneticist about her “small bones.” I was mentally preparing myself to be the Mom of a little person…I mean that’s what they mean when they say small bones right?!? With Drew’s Dad being adopted there is a portion of DNA that will forever be in question, so I just thought that was what was playing out. Well we stressed and fretted about that silly report for days before we had our appointment, only to find out that she was petite!

Then when she was born “precipitously” (one push) as they say in OB lingo she had amniotic fluid lingering in her lungs, which led her to choke during a diaper change…( I thought she was having a seizure, she turned blue and went rigid). That scare sent us to the NICU for a few days, but in her true red-haired fashion she pulled her iv out (at 3 days old) and we busted outta that joint.

As you can see today, she’s vibrant, she’s healthy and doesn’t have “small bones.”

Cheers to your 9th year Cora Elizabeth Hektoen…you are more than I ever deserved and I love being your Mom!
